The institutions behind TiGRE
The TiGRE consortium comprises 10 partners including 8 universities, one research centre, and one SME, coming from 9 different countries, namely Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Israel, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, and Switzerland.
The consortium strives to develop novel approaches to restore and improve trust in governance and enhance the quality of democracy. All partners have affinity to questions related to trust and regulatory governance, with largely complementary as well as strategically overlapping and interdisciplinary competences in political science, social psychology, law, economics, public administration and communication studies.
TiGRE is coordinated by Prof. Martino Maggetti, Prof. Ioannis Papadopoulos and Dr. Edoardo Guaschino, at the Laboratory for the Analysis of Governance and Public Policy in Europe (LAGAPE), University of Lausanne, Switzerland. With a strong expertise in the study of multi-level governance and regulatory policies, their role is crucial to integrate the research findings of the other TiGRE partners throughout the duration of the project.

Founded in 1537, the University of Lausanne (UNIL), committed to supporting cutting-edge research at international level, won fame recently with the 2017 Nobel prize for chemistry Jacques Dubochet. The Laboratory for the Analysis of Governance and Public Policy in Europe (LAGAPE) is a research unit that gathers the researchers of the Institute of Political Science of the UNIL focusing on the study of governance, regulation, policy-making, public administration, and the role of political elites. It is the largest research centre devoted to these topics in Switzerland and its members are active contributors to the international scholarly debate.

The Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) was set up in 2004 with the goal of becoming a leading European institution for advanced research and postgraduate training of future generations of professionals and experts dealing with international affairs of public concern. The International Studies Research Group (GREI) focus on a wide set of global problems regarding politics and international development, with the study of international governance processes being tackled transversely. The group members consider, among other matters, the political economy of the states in the context of globalisation, the role of the multilateral institutions, and the networks of actors present in the international sphere or in the processes of interaction among countries and the effects on their public policies.

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) is Israel’s leading research institution. HUJI includes one of the largest research groups in Europe in Political Science, International Relations and Public Policy, worldwide recognized as an authority in the field of regulation of governance and its application to various domains of governance. The research group members have a vast theoretical and empirical knowledge of multilevel governance and EU public policy, in addition to strong methodological skills (survey, experiments, comparative methods and case studies).

Founded in 1947, the German University of Administrative Sciences is the national school for postgraduate education, in-service training and research in the context of Public Administration in Germany. This includes the training of future senior civil servants, in-service training for senior civil servants, and research into the legal, economic and social problems of international, national and local administration. The research group "Administrative Change and International Developments" focus on transnational cooperation, international bureaucracies and domestic bureaucratic innovation - in particular in the area of migration and refugees. Prime investigation instruments are surveys as well as experimental vignette designs. Main research activities of the TiGRE team are administrative and institutional change, governance and trust, and multilevel administrative transformation.

Aarhus University (AU), founded in 1928, has four faculties covering the entire research spectrum – basic research, applied research, strategic research and research based advice to the authorities. AU has a very successful track record of managing both individual fellowships and large international projects and of hosting visiting researchers for both training and knowledge transfer purposes. AU Department of Management and Department of Political Sciences are both internationally leading departments covering a wide range of expertise in particular with respect to media analysis, case-studies and survey experiments performed within a public sector context.

The University of Oslo (UiO) is Norway’s oldest institution for research and higher education. ARENA is a multidisciplinary research institute located at the UiO’s Faculty of Social Sciences. The centre is internationally recognised as a leading research community engaged in the examination of the processes of political change in Europe. ARENA’s staff conducts cutting-edge research in organisational and institutional developments, legitimacy and democracy, foreign and security policy, civil society and the public sphere. ARENA’s staff has experience in various methods of quantitative analysis, including gathering and analysing large data sets.

Established in 1636, the Utrecht University (UU) is a leading research university with state-of-the art research facilities and excellent research training. In line with the interdisciplinary Strategic Theme ‘Institutions for Open Societies’, the UU School of Governance (USG) studies public issues and public organisations in their interaction with the developments in politics and society. The USG hosts the Governance Lab Utrecht (GLU), which is a lab for experiments in a public administration setting. In addition, the GLU has a mobile lab, which allows us to carry out “lab in the field” experiments.
